Two letters from President Goodluck Jonathan, were on Wednesday, 16th November, 2011,
presented on the floor of the Senate by the Senate President, David Mark.
Both letters seek the confirmation of the appointments of the Executive Secretary of the
Human Rights Commission, Prof. Ben Angwe, and the following as Chairman and Members,
respectively, of the Governing Council of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).
The appointees are Dr. Chidi Anslem Odinkalu as Chairman, Mr. Sully Abu, Mrs. Eugenia Abu,
and Mr. Kayode Komolafe, as Members, representing the Media. Others members are Mr. Dave
Obidi C. Ezeigwe and Mrs. Ranti Bosede Daudu, representing the NBA. Members representing
Human Rights NGOs are Mrs. Saadatu Mahdi, Mr. Jones Osim and Mr. Olawale Fapohunda. Women
and the Organized Labour are represented by Mrs. Olufunmilayo Falana, Mrs. Cynthia Ene
Olofu Ogbe and a Nominee the NLC. Also on the list as Members are the Executive
Secretary, Prof. Bem Angwe and Three Ex-Officio who are to represent Ministries of
Justice, Foreign Affairs and Interior, respectively.
