The House of Representatives on Monday July 5, 2010, commenced a Public Hearing on allegations of non-performance levelled by the Senate against the office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) handling projects under the scheme. The Speaker was represented by the House Chief Whip, Hon. Emeka Ihedioha.
It would be recalled that the Senior Special Assistant to the President on MDGs, Hajia Amina Az-Zubair had alleged that frequent interventions by members of the National Assembly in the execution of the constituency projects had brought about a lull in implementation of projects under the scheme. She told the Committee that the country has since 2006 received from the Paris Club the sum of $1billion (N150 million) annually as debt relief from which the Federal Government takes $750 million (about N112.50 billion) and States $250 million or N37.5 billion.
