The House of Representatives Committee on Housing and Habitat has announced the recovery of about N1.8billion from six banks which had before now refused to pay interest on funds remitted by the Presidential Implementation Committee on sale of government property.
This was announced at an investigative Public Hearing on the Presidential Committee on the lease/sale of government’s landed property by the Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Garba Matazu. He named the banks as Skye Bank, Equitorial Trust Bank, Oceanic Bank, Intercontinental Bank, Wema Bank and the United Bank for Africa (UBA).
Hon. Matazu announced the determination of the committee to signal the Police and the EFCC to go after the banks should they fail to remit the withheld funds into the coffers of the Presidential Implementation Committee as specified.
