The House of Representatives has passed for second reading a Bill for an Act to Amend the National Institute for Legislative Studies (NILS) Act, 2011 to among other things change the name of the Institute to National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies.
After intense debate on the Bill which was sponsored by Hon. Ossai Nicholas Ossai and five other members, it came to the fore that the proposal will not only allow for the Legislative Institute to become a full-fledged academic institution thereby enhancing its contributions to the legislature but also gain empowerment to provide training and research services in Legislative and Democratic Studies.
The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara however referred the Bill to Committee on Justice for further legislative action.
