The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila has announced the leadership of 102 Standing Committees that would steer the affairs of the 9th House via oversight duties, treatment of public complaints, interface with various Ministries, Departments and Agencies of government in the area of budget monitoring, ensuring legislative compliance to resolutions passed by the Chamber and ascertaining the level of budget performance and policies of government as it affects the citizenry.
The Speaker charged the various Chairmen of the new Committees to live up to the responsibilities entrusted to them. He tasked them on being proactive, responsive and professional in the conduct of their Legislative business, adding that the Committees are the engines that galvanize all activities of the House, and that being the case, they must do their best to project the Chamber as one that is concerned with the welfare and security of the masses.
He also charged them to be above board and shun any invitation to indulge in practices that would bring disrepute to the image, integrity and sanctity of the House, as they should endeavor to work within the ambit of the law and rules governing Legislative procedures.
